Please download (SAVE) this update file, GenX2005.exe, to your desktop. This will take 10 minutes or so and can be done in the background while you work on other things. Check to make sure your operating system didn’t block this GenX2005.exe file (right-click on it, go to “Properties”, and make sure it is not blocked on the “General” tab). If it is blocked, click on "Unblock", "Apply", and "OK".
As usual, before you update, make sure you have a good copy of your data, GenXData.mdb, in a secure location. A removable drive is best, but you can also place the copy of GenXData.mdb into another folder.
You can then run the update by double-clicking on GenX2005.exe. Accept the license agreement and go along with the default settings as it runs. There are a few steps to the update, so make sure you let them all run. When the update is completed, click on “Finish”.
Then, before you open the program, make sure all users are out of GenX2005. Left-click on the Windows "START" button, open up "Programs", click on "GenX", and open "Update Data Structures". You'll get a screen with purple flowers on it. Click "OK" to run the module, and "OK" again after you get a message telling you that your data files are updated. This process only has to be done by the first person running this update.
When you go into the program after updating, you will get a gray screen with a red message telling you not to close out of that screen. Just wait it out. You will also get that gray screen the first time you print. If you close out of either of these screens, the software may not function properly.
The old HUD has not been eliminated. You will merely choose which one you want to use when you enter the Information Menu. In a new file, by default, “Use the new HUD 2010” is checked. If you uncheck that box, you are locked into the old HUD the next time you enter that file. If you start doing a file with the new HUD, it is imperative that you don’t switch back to the old HUD. The accuracy of the inputted information would be compromised.
This update must be run on all computers. The “Download” email can be forwarded around your office, as needed. Remember, wiith shared data, only one person will need to update the data structures. Subsequent users need only run GenX2005.exe. Others can stay in the program, as the data is not touched.
